The MIX Innovation Day has been held for several years, and is a vibrant arena where bachelor and master students in media and interaction design (MIX) present their design solutions and prototypes. A jury evaluates the prototypes and hands out the MVP Award - the Minimum Viable Proptotype Award.
At the MIX Innovation Day 2025 you can learn more about seventeen different designs created to tackle real-world challenges across a range of industries, including computer games, apps and web sites for partners as diverse as the Media Cluster Norway, Bergen Bysykkel and Parkinsonforbundet.
💫 Program
The event takes place in the Atrium at Media City Bergen, Lars Hilles gate 30, next to the Bergen Light Rail station Nygård.
11:00 - 11.05. Welcome.
Our master of ceremony Joao Ribeiro will introduce the event.
11.05 - 12:00: Bachelor webdesign projects.
The five bachelor projects will be presented in a series of pitches with comments from the jury. Read all about the projects below.
12:00 - 13:30: Master safari and lunch.
The twelve master projects will be presented simultaneously at a "safari" where the audience walk from stand to stand and talk with the students and discuss the projects' merits. Read all about the projects below.

13:30 - 13.40. Launch of "Håndbok i innovasjon for studenter".
TekLab recently published the free online book "Håndbok i innovasjon for studenter" and today it will be officially launched. The TekLab project has spent several years writing it, and a large numer of students and teachers have been involved in the project.
13.40 - 14:00: Awards ceremony.
The jury will announce the winners of the MVP Award for the bachelor and master projects.
The MVP Award
A jury of professional designers will evaluate the projects and give the students valuable feedback. The jury will hand out the MVP award to the project that has the best chance of becoming a real product in the media industry, hence the name "minimum viable product" (MVP). There are separate prizes for the bachelor and master programs. The prize has been awarded for several years in a row, and you can read about the winners from 2024 and the winner from 2023.
The jury is:
Precilia Isaksen is a UX consultant at Bouvet. She was named Designer of the Week by UX Norway in 2024. Precilia is a former MIX student and has previously worked at TV 2.
Sofija Ivanova is a service designer at Youwell, a patient and health technology company. She is a board member of IxDA Bergen and has worked at several design agencies.
Iselin Kornli holds an MSc in innovation and entrepreneurship and has spent the past nine years leading innovation projects, coaching cross-functional teams, and helping to establish innovation environments in several major companies.
We are really grateful that Precilia, Sofija and Iselin will join us as jury members.
Organization
The event is organized by The department of information science and media studies at UiB in collaboration with Agenda Vestlandet. Agenda Vestlandet was established by Sparebanken Vest to drive the green transition in Vestlandet, and it supports research, innovation, and dialogue around regional challenges and opportunities.
We are proud to present five design projects from our final year bachelor students. All the projects have been developed in close collaboration with real clients from the University of Bergen and the innovation sector in Bergen.

A co-design tool for developing narrative learning games.

Nova Luna Studio is the next phase in collaborative game creation. With intuitive tools and export-ready formats, Nova Luna Studio is a creative companion for both educators and developers.

UiB Idé facilitates innovation, through helping students and researchers at the University of Bergen advance their innovation projects. Our project renews the site, allowing for a stress-free application process. Through an improved interface, and smoother navigation, the new UiB Idé aims to spark innovation across all faculties.

How can we encourage more people to choose sustainable mobility in their daily lives?
This project explores how Bergen City Bike can become a more integrated part of urban life through a user-centered approach. By utilizing personalization, gamification, and motivating design elements, the goal is to create a more engaging, efficient, and sustainable cycling experience. The project combines insights into mobility, technology, and sustainability to promote active and smart transportation choices.

Full Kontroll
Full Kontroll turns TV troubleshooting into a clear, step-by-step process. By combining a light-guided TV remote with real-time customer support, it provides seniors with personalized assistance, right when they need it. On the other end, customer support agents are equipped with a powerful tool that lets them view the senior’s TV screen and remote in real time, trace their button presses, and light up specific buttons for accurate guidance — bridging communication gaps. Full Kontroll enables more effective and empathetic support by giving both seniors and support teams the tools they need for effective and steady interactions.

Drawn to Mind
What if drawing on a tablet could help monitor brain health?
Drawn to Mind is a prototype for iPad and Pencil Pro that investigates the use of fine-motor movement as a window into cognitive function. Built on open and accessible technology, the iOS app captures rich sensor data during simple handwriting and drawing tasks up to 240 times per second. Clinicians and researchers can design, administer, and analyze structured cognitive assessments, while users complete them – stroke by stroke.

Formula 1, at a glance: Build your own dashboard of live race stats on your lock screen.
Speed Widget helps you follow Formula 1 races by showing the most important updates through live widgets on your home or lock screen. You can customize which widgets you see, so you're always up to date on the things that matter most to you, wether that is radio messages, lap times, or position changes. The widgets update in real time, giving you a clear, at-a-glance view without needing to switch apps or miss any of the action. It’s designed to keep you focused on the race, not distracted by searching for information. Speed Widget makes the Formula 1 viewing experience smoother, more personal, and right where you need it.

Digital Support for Students in a New City
This project explores how design can support students who have moved to a new city to study. Many face challenges in understanding their housing, finding practical information, and building new social connections. The project investigates how design solutions can make it easier to feel at home, both in the student accommodation and the local community, and contribute to a safer and more socially connected start to student life.

Redesign of Bibliofil
Bibliofil is the app that gives access to libraries all across Norway, now with a completely new and user-friendly design. With insights from real users, the app has been redesigned from the ground up with a focus on simplicity, flow, and intuitive use. Everything from searching to borrowing has been improved and made more accessible directly on your phone. Now it's easier than ever to explore the library's services and opportunities, anytime and anywhere.

Interaction, narrative and the value of who you play as
What does it actually mean to be represented in a media where you not only experience the narrative, but take an active part in it's development? Digital gaming is a billion dollar industry, and is enjoyed by people all across the globe. That's why it's important to gain an understanding in just exactly how big of an impact you have when you change something as little... and at the same time as vastly important, as your role in the game you're playing.

By 2028, most Norwegian companies must report on sustainability to the EU. For many SMEs, the requirements are both unclear and overwhelming. Rise is a reporting tool that makes it easy to understand what needs to be reported and how to do it correctly. With Rise, companies avoid mistakes, fines and misunderstandings, while building credibility with customers and strengthening their own market position.

Using mobile devices is becoming an increasingly integrated part of our daily lives, but the experience is often limited to a single screen. Linke uses cross-device technology to make gaming experiences bigger, more fun, and more social. Specifically designed for collaboration, the app allows players to connect devices and create a single shared gaming surface.

Forte
Choir is more than just singing! Forte is the app that gathers all information in one place, including sheet music, audio files, messages and events. This project explores the interplay between engagement, music and interaction design and how interaction design can help make music making easier and more fun.
From small messages to inside jokes, Forte is made for real people in real choirs, with a focus on community, collaboration and music.

Technology continues to shape our future, but can everyone follow along?
Through extensive insight work, we have uncovered specific challenges and needs people with Parkinson’s encounter in digital environments. By redesigning Parkinson.no, we present a concrete example of how inclusive, accessible, and user-friendly solutions can be developed to meet these needs. Our ambition is to help create a world where inclusion is not a goal to strive for, but the norm.
